Yes, eye drops can surely give you a bad taste in your mouth. And it happens to all people who use eye drops. And the reason is also very simple. The glands of your eyes, your nasal cavity, and your throat are interlinked like there is a tunnel connecting them together. And when you are using eye drops, you will always lean your body a little backward. So when you are using your eye drops, the some of the eye drops will go to your throat through your eyes and your nasal cavity, and then finally you will taste the eye drops in your mouth. It tastes bitter because the eye drops are bitter, and your eyes cannot tell because your eyes do not have the sense of taste. Although your eye drops are for your eyes and it says eye drops cannot be taken orally, it will not do harm to you if you swallow your eye drops accidently, because people have already taken this situation in account when they make eye drops.

Yes, it is bitter tasting. The most common eye drops ingredients are hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and carboxymethylcellulose. Saline solution is also commonly used. Saline tastes bitter so the drops also taste bitter. In addition, saline based drops are the most commonly used because they most closely the tears the human body produces. So, it is safe if you swallow eye drops. Furthermore, you should also consult a doctor.
